The Writing Life......Read, Read, Read

To be a writer, you must read other writers. The creative writing faculty has helped UMF’s Mantor library build a collection of contemporary literature in poetry, fiction, short fiction and creative nonfiction. In addition, our library carries many literary journals and magazines of interest to writers. Many more journals and e-zines are available online. Check them out and see what’s happening in the writing world.

Literary Community……
Participate, Watch and Listen

Part of being a writer is participating in literary community—learning about the lives and work of writers who’ve come before you, going to readings, hanging out with other writers, reading your own work at open mics. Mantor Library has a diverse collection of video tapes and cds of writers reading and being interviewed. They include most if not all of the authors who have read as part of the UMF Visiting Writers Series, as well as other videos of accomplished writers you may or may not have heard of. Check them out, and see what an incredible literary world you are part of.
